Associated Credit Union Foundation, Marietta, Ga., donated $11,000 to Operation HomeFront Georgia during its annual “Making Caring Count Golf Tournament” at Dunwoody Country Club. Operation HomeFront’s provides emergency services and morale support for Georgia military families and wounded soldiers.
Belvoir Federal Credit Union, Woodbridge, Va., and the Armed Forces Financial Network partnered together to provide a $3,000 donation to the Comfort for America’s Uniformed Services. The CAUSE’s program helps to reduce pain and stress levels while also demonstrating community support for wounded, injured or ill military service members and their families.
The Credit Union Executives Society, Madison, Wis., contributed $2,500 to two organizations in honor of board member Frederick Healey. Healey recently announced he is resigning after serving many years at CUES in many different positions, including vice chairman/chairman elect, treasurer, and secretary, and board chairman. Donations will go to Old Colony Hospice, Randolph, Mass., in honor of Healey’s mother, Cynthia M. Healey. Contributions will also be sent to Dr. Peter Enzinger’s Research Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, in a dedication to his brother, Thomas A. Healey.
Ent Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs, Colo., raised $42,788 for the 2012 Colorado Springs Heart Walk–a fundraising event benefiting the American Heart Association. More than 130 Ent employees and family members participated as registered walkers in the event and the credit union held company-wide fundraising events like barbeques, raffles, jeans days, car washes and bake sales. Ent’s members also contributed to the cause through donations made at area service centers.
Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union, Fayetteville, N.C., gained $6,000 from a charity golf tournament, which it then donated to Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation’s Friends of the Cancer Center and the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, N.C.
Insight Credit Union, Orlando, Fl., contributed to the fundraising efforts of the American Cancer Society by attending the annual Cattle Barons’ Ball of Lake and Sumter Counties. By participating in the Lake County Relay for Life Walk in April and attending the Cattle Barons’ Ball, Insight Credit Union and its employees raised more than $8,000 to battle cancer and contributed more than 1,200 volunteer hours to the American Cancer Society.
Keesler Federal Credit Union, Biloxi, Miss., presented $14,000 to the Combat Wounded Veterans of South Mississippi and an additional $1,000 to the John C. Stennis Chapter of the Air Force Association. Funds were raised from Keesler Federal Credit Union’s annual golf tournament held at the Keesler Air Force Base Bay Breeze Golf Course.
Leominster Credit Union, Leominster, Mass., presented Douglas Nadeau and Joan Ficarra of the Montachusett Area Rotary Club with a check for $2,500 representing a platinum sponsorship for the club’s largest fundraiser, the Scapparone-Ficarra Memorial Golf Tournament. The beneficiary of the tournament, Arc of Opportunities, is an organization that assists people through its recreational program and scholarship fund. The Scapparone-Ficarra Memorial Golf Tournament took place on June 21 at the Westminster Country Club.
Members 1st Federal Credit Union, Mechanicsburg, Pa., held its annual golf classic last month at The Links at Gettysburg. The credit union raised $45,000 that was split equally among three local nonprofit organizations. CPARC, The Salvation Army and Four Diamonds Fund were beneficiaries of the tournament, each taking home checks for $15,000. More than 130 golfers registered for the tournament.
Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, East Lansing, Mich., recently contributed a total of $12,665 to 24 charities in addition to providing volunteer time and 200 meals. These charitable activities began with the World Council of Credit Unions’ International Credit Union Day as part of a “Credit Unions Build a Better World” initiative. Fundraising kicked off with MSUFCU’s human resources department providing each credit union department with a $100 donation toward a charity of the department’s choice. Each department was then given the challenge to grow this initial donation into a larger contribution. Fundraising efforts went on for several months with activities ranging from iPad raffles to bake sales to clothing drives. Together, MSUFCU staff increased an initial $2,400 charitable donation more than 525% to the final $12,665 total. The 24 recipients of MSUFCU’s donations include the Capital Area Humane Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Ele’s Place.
OnPoint Community Credit Union, Portland, Ore., announced a $1,000 donation to the Gregory Heights Library through the Multnomah County Library Foundation. The donation was made to celebrate the opening of OnPoint’s newest branch in the Roseway neighborhood.
Merck Sharp & Dohme Federal Credit Union, Chalfont, Pa., raised $10,000 for Bridge of Hope Buxmont at their MSDFCU charity golf open. Bridge of Hope Buxmont is a local charity helping homeless single-parent families in Bucks and Montgomery Counties. Their aim is to help these families achieve permanent housing, financial self-sufficiency and family stability. Over the last 13 years, the credit union’s golf outing has generated over $120,000 towards charity.
Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robins, Ga., made a corporate donation of $1,000 to the Macon Area Habitat for Humanity. In addition to the donation, a team of 11 Robins Federal Credit Union employees met at a home in Lynmore Estates for Habitat’s “Women Build Day.” The team consisted of nine female and two male managers from several Robins Federal Credit Union branches and departments. Robins Federal Credit Union has partnered with the Macon Area Habitat for Humanity since 2008, and employees have frequently donated their time to construct Habitat homes. Since 2005, Macon Area Habitat for Humanity has constructed homes in the Lynmore Estates area, with a goal of building 46 homes in the area by 2013. The average cost of one home is $90,000.
Tinker Federal Credit Union, Oklahoma City, recently presented a donation of $18,970 to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. The donation came as a result of a TFCU member response initiative and will provide nearly 100,000 meals to hungry Oklahomans. For the last three years, the Regional Food Bank has also been a favorite destination of TFCU employees during its Hand2Hand community volunteer initiative. Tower Federal Credit Union, Laurel, Md., raised $28,000 from their annual Tower Classic Golf Tournament to benefit the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Md. With 45 sponsors and 144 golfers, the 2012 Tower Classic was the credit union’s most successful to date. Major event sponsors included Fidelity Information Services, PW Campbell, CUNA, MasterCard International, RBC Wealth, Network Management Group, and Prime Alliance. Proceeds from the event, along with sponsor donations, raised $18,000. CO-OP Financial Services donated an additional $10,000 through its Miracle Match program, bringing the total to $28,000. The tournament brings in approximately $25,000 annually to help sick children and their families. Since 1998, the Tower Classic has raised more than $200,000 for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
