Industry Leaders Thank Decker for Stepping Forward

Government and industry leaders are publicly thanking Carla Decker for her willingness to be considered for a position on the NCUA Board.

News Update:
March 28, 2012, NCUA Bans Credit Union Board Member for Decker Disclosure

The White House announced Monday it was withdrawing the Decker nomination. Sources on background reported Decker had approached the White House to withdraw the nomination, but neither Decker nor the White House has yet confirmed this.

“I wish Carla well in her future endeavors,” said NCUA Board Chairman Debbie Matz on hearing the news. “I look forward to working with whomever the White House appoints and the Senate confirms.”

Decker is CEO of the $46 million District Government Employees Federal Credit Union in Washington, D.C.

Jim Blaine, CEO of the $24 billion State Employees' Credit Union in North Carolina, thanked Decker for being willing to go through the process and expressed regret for the more difficult aspects of it.  “I'm sorry she had to go through that meat grinder,” Blaine said.

CUNA spokesman Pat Keefe also praised Decker's willingness to serve.

"We appreciate Ms. Decker's willingness to be considered, and respect her decision to withdraw. We look forward to providing the White House with any suggestions or insights it may request as the president looks for a new nominee,” Keefe said.

NAFCU declined to comment on the nomination withdrawal.
