John Shoos, left, senior vice president of the United Way of Greater Portland, accepts a check from John Murphy, president/CEO of the Maine Credit Union League.
Members of the Maine Credit Union League took less than 72 hours to raise $30,000 for a statewide home heating program facing an urgent need for help to offset cuts to a federal home energy assistance program. The contribution would pay for nearly 9,000 gallons of fuel for families across Maine through a collaboration of United Way and other community action programs called the Keep ME Warm program. “The opportunity to help families in communities throughout Maine heat their homes speaks directly to what credit unions are all about,” said Maine Credit Union League President/CEO John Murphy.
