Locks of Love in LA: Slide Show

Melia Keller, president/CEO at Mid Cities Credit Union in Compton, Calif., recently donated her long locks to Locks of Love, the organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada suffering from long-term hair loss. Most of the children helped have lost their hair due to a condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure.

The prostheses Locks of Love provides helps to restore their self-esteem and confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. Keller also donated her hair in 2004 after a visit to Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

“This was an excellent exercise in reminding me of what is truly important in life—the health and well being of our loved ones," Keller said. "This time around I have two children of my own. I simply can’t imagine one of them having to deal with cancer at such a young age. I hope others are inspired to contribute in some way.”

Here is Keller showing off her donation to Locks of Love.

And here is the Mid Cities CEO with her new look.
