Take Advantis: Oregon CU Offers Community Action Grants

As nonprofits continue to struggle, the $810 million Advantis Credit Union in Milwaukie, Ore., has figured out a way to make a real difference in the communities it serves, with GROW: The Advantis Community Fund.

According to Wendy Edwards, vice president of marketing/human resources at Advantis, GROW aims to help revitalize communities by providing access to financial resources to help tackle a wide range of local needs and challenges.

With an initial fund of $50,000 and grants up to $10,000 each, the Advantis awards for small and moderate-sized non-profits were created to seed local projects that offer the most potential for long term benefits.

Applications for an Advantis Grow Grant will be accepted through Oct. 31. A selection committee will identify the projects with the most promise of long term benefits, and the public will be invited to vote on the finalists via the suburban Portland credit union’s website and Facebook page beginning Nov. 4.
