NAFCU Senior Vice President Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications Jay Morris announced he will leave his post this fall after an 11-year tenure at the trade association.
“I’ve got a great team that can step up to the plate, and NAFCU is doing quite well and will continue to do so. I’ve been here for 11 years and it is good time to try something new,” he told Credit Union Times.
He has been the top communications and marketing strategist for the association, though the day-to- day contacts with the media are mostly handled by Public Relations Manager Patty Briotta. At press time, NAFCU hadn’t named Morris’ successor.
Morris, who said he would probably leave after NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus takes place in mid-September, said he was exploring several possibilities, including starting his own firm.
Before joining NAFCU in 2000, a few months before NAFCU President/CEO Fred Becker came on board, Morris was a top executive with the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisers.
“During his tenure at NAFCU, Jay has played a key role in improving our electronic and print publications, expanding our press relations and fine-tuning our marketing programs,” Becker said in a statement.
It is the second departure of a senior executive at NAFCU this year. Chief Operation Officer Patrick Morris (no relation to Jay) left the organization in May to become president/CEO of ACA International, the trade association for the credit collections industry. He was succeeded by Anthony Demangone, who had been NAFCU’s vice president for regulatory compliance.
CUNA is also having some changes in its senior management team. Senior Vice Presidents John Magill and Susan Newton were both promoted to executive vice president and Magill was also named special assistant to President/CEO Bill Cheney.
Magill and Newton are dividing up the responsibilities of Chief of Staff Richard McBride, who is scheduled to retire at the end of the year. McBride has been at CUNA for 15 years.
