Digital Federal Credit Union surprised Worcester, Mass., drivers Wednesday by rolling back the price at the gas pump to 2005’s low $1.99 per gallon.
According to the $3.8 billion Marlborough, Mass., credit union, the move was designed to demonstrate to the community how much DCU can save members.
Slated to run for six hours from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pleasant & Park Gulf Gas Station, the promotion also benefited the American Red Cross Disaster Relief efforts.
For every car that filled up, DCU said it would donate $1.99 to the Red Cross to help families affected by the tornadoes that hit the state a month ago.
DCU conducted a similar promotion in Worcester in July 2008, pumping 7,429 gallons of discounted gas for nearly 800 happy drivers from around the area, representing a savings of more than $14,000 for consumers at the time.
