Virginia CU Adds Mobile Banking

Mobile Web, Text Banking Aimed at Boosting Services to Younger Members

CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union of Alexandria, Va., is adding mobile Web and text banking with an eye toward boosting services to its younger members.

The $289 million, 37,000-member CU is offering the service through its Internet banking provider, Intuit Financial Services. Any phone with a browser can be used to access balances, history, transfers and bill pay. SMS texting offers balances, transactions and fund transfers.

CommonWealth One said it has the only branch on the campus of 19,000-student James Madison University in Harrisonburg and a large number of Gen Y members.

"We are pleased to offer members both mobile Web and text banking, which add a new level of 24/7 access and convenience in managing their account relationships," said John Blair, the CU’s CEO.

Along with Harrisonburg, CommonWealth One has branches in Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia.
