This year’s California and Nevada Credit Unions for Kids Wine Auction raised $270,000 for local children’s hospitals, passing $1 million as the total amount donated since 2006.
On March 25, more than 300 people from over 75 credit unions, organizations and hospitals attended the event at Laguna Cliffs Resort & Spa in Dana Point, Calif. In addition to 260 bottles of wine, attendees bid on other luxury items such as vacation packages to destinations in California and Hawaii.
Nine-year-old Bailey Spoonhower and his mother addressed the crowd as special guests, sharing the story of how the boy recovered from cancer with the help of Children’s Hospital Orange County, one of the 11 hospitals that benefit from the program’s donations.
Corporate sponsors of the event were the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, CU Direct Corp., CO-OP Financial Services, Financial Service Centers Cooperative Inc. and CUNA Mutual Group. Financial Partners CU, Schools First FCU, Xceed Financial CU, AutoNation Direct and Fifth Third Processing Solutions served as grand reserve sponsors, and Fiserv Inc. paid for the appearance of the Bermuda Mavericks, a comedy duo who performed at the event.
