Last year turned out to be a good year for local charities thanks to Alaska USA Federal Credit Union.
In 2010 the Anchorage, Alaska-based credit union's Alaska USA Foundation donated $62,200 to local nonprofit groups. Recipients ranged from Armed Services YMCA of Alaska, the Children's Lunchbox and Community School Collaboration to Stand Down Inc. and the Children's Miracle Network.
Alaska USA Foundation (www.alaskausafoundation.org) raises funds through membership, donations and calendar sales. The credit union provides fundraising and administrative support to the foundation.
Since its inception in 2003, the foundation has distributed over $650,000 to charitable organizations that provide needs-based services to children, veterans and active duty members of the armed services and their families.
