New EVP Named at Fiserv

Fiserv Inc. has begun the new year by naming a former CEO of H&R Block and senior IRS official as its new executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Mark Ernst joined Fiserv this week, the Brookfield, Wis., company said. He most recently was deputy commissioner for operations support for the IRS, responsible for technology, operations, shared services, human resources and the chief financial office, Fiserv said.

Ernst, 52, also was CEO of Bellevue Capital LLC, a private investment firm, and was chairman, president and CEO of H&R Block from 2001 through 2007, Fiserv said.

Ernst will report to Fiserv President/CEO Jeffery Yabuki. "Mark has a proven track record in delivering strong results across a wide array of financial services businesses and government," Yabuki said.

Ernst holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago and a bachelor's degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where he is a member of the board of trustees, Fiserv said.
