NAFCU Services Corp. is now offering social media site protection services from a major provider of Internet security services to financial institutions.
The Cyveillance Secure Social Media Management program includes social media policy enforcement, brand and identity protection and cyber safety awareness education, the company and trade organization said. Functions include a secure customer portal that can locked down using e-mail, user names and passwords or restricting the account pages to marketing and promotional purposes.
Analysts have pointing to the increasing threat of identity theft through social media sites as users post potentially compromising information that exposes them to targeted phishing attacks. The Cyveillance program includes educational materials aimed at informing credit union members of that threat.
"Criminals are ever vigilant in finding new and more sophisticated and successful means to carry out targeted social engineering scams. Cyveillance is very eager to expand our ongoing partnership with NAFCU Services, providing the most sophisticated security solutions to protect credit unions' members and employees against these persistent threats," said Panos Anastassiadis, chief operating officer of Cyveillance in Arlington, Va.
David Frankil, president of NAFCU Services, said, "As our members look to increase their social media presence to connect and communicate with members and prospective members, they are challenged to ensure that those interactions remain safe and productive.".
