The NCUA chartered its third credit union this year today when it approved the charter
for Shepherd's Federal Credit Union, located in Charlotte, N.C.
The low-income credit union, which is scheduled to open next month, will serve congregants and staff members of Unity, the Way of Holiness Christian Church.
"Shepherd's Federal Credit Union will offer hands-on help and long-term hope to a group that is striving to build a more prosperous community," NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz said in a statement.
The credit union is sponsored by the Neighborhood Church Coalition, a nonprofit organization in Charlotte, which provides organizational support to churches in low-income areas.
