CUNA and NAFCU Backing Two Sides in Florida Race

Because of Florida Gov. Charlie Crist's decision to leave the GOP and become an independent, the

political action committees of CUNA and NAFCU have supported more than one Senate candidate in the Sunshine State.

.

Both PACs gave Crist and Democratic candidate Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-Fla.) $5,000 each. In today's Democratic primary, Meek is competing with millionaire businessman Jeff Greene for the party's nomination for the U.S. Senate.

Crist will be on the November ballot as an independent and former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio is the likely GOP nominee.

Both PACs gave Crist and Meek money for his primary campaign and will have the chance to reevaluate their strategy for the fall. Crist and Meek have both supported credit union issues.

In another closely watched Senate race being held today, CUNA's PAC gave $5,000 and NAFCU's PAC gave $1,000 to Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) who is being challenged from the right by Joe Miller a lawyer and former state judge.
