During what he hopes will be the beginning of the final debate on the financial overhaul bill, Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd thanked NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz for her help during the drafting and negotiations.
"I'm grateful to the National Credit Union Administration, their chairman Ms. Matz, who also was very helpful in putting this bill together,'' Dodd (D-Conn.) said on the Senate floor last night.
He also singled out Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair for their assistance.
The Senate is scheduled to take a procedural vote on the bill around noon today and if it passes a final vote is likely to occur later this afternoon.
Democratic leaders have said that 57 of 58 Senate Democrats and three of 41 Republicans will support the bill.
