SBA Preps to Honor Small Entrepreneurs, Lenders

As the SBA gears up for its annual festivities honoring small businesses, credit unions could once again be among the candidates recognized for their lending efforts.

More than 100 small business owners will be honored by the SBA during National Small Business Week May 23-25 in Washington. In addition to the State Small Business Persons of the Year, individuals involved in disaster recovery, government procurement, small business champions, as well as SBA partners in financial and entrepreneurial development will be honored.

Lenders will be recognized at a May 24 breakfast ceremony, according to the SBA.

In 2009, the SBA's large 7(a) Loan Lender of the Year award was split into two sub-categories: large lender and credit union lender. The $3.7 billion Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union of Live Oak, Texas, was last year's CU winner. BBVA Compass Bank of Birmingham, Ala. received the 7(a) large lender award.
