California CU Offers Check Deposit by iPhone

A $92 million California credit union is one of the first to offer remote check deposit service through the cameras on iPhones.

Torrance Community Credit Union is offering the service through an interface between its core processor, Innovative Technology Inc. of Omaha, Neb., and check processor Eastern Corporate FCU of Burlington, Mass.

The free application is available at App Store and was developed by EasCorp subsidiary Vertifi Software LLC to interface with INTECH's mobile banking solution.

"This is the leading edge of remote deposit technology and an important addition to our online service delivery channel," said Steve Stoppel, president of the 6,400-member institution in Torrance.

EasCorp is now working on a similar application for the Google Android platform, said its president/CEO, Jane Melchionda.
