'Museum' Included in Iowa Anniversary Celebration

The Iowa Credit Union League is going all out this week in celebrating the 100th anniversary of credit unions by setting up a museum at its annual Des Moines convention and selling commemorative $100 posters plus placards and videos depicting the U.S. and Iowa history of CUs.

The $100 posters, sponsored by CUNA Mutual, include drawings of early CU history by Des Moines Register cartoonist Brian Duffy.

League officials said also they have lowered the registration fees on the "Spirit of a Century" conference to get a bigger turnout. So far, 350 registrants have already signed up.

"I think we had just 300 last year and so it looks like we'll exceed that," said Emily Oliver, director of public affairs/marketing for the league.

All proceeds from the poster sale will go toward the Iowa Credit Union Foundation. The league conference will be held Wednesday through Friday.

Among the bit of memorabilia is a video recorded by the late Al Jordan, long-time president/CEO of the league who died earlier this year at 101.
