New NAFCU Robbery DVD Steals From a Pro

NAFCU's latest training DVD relies partially on the insights from a former bank robber to help credit unions prepare for and prevent robberies.

"Deterring and Responding to Robberies," in part, draws on the experiences of Troy Evans, a former five-time bank robber. He committed robberies in three states and served over seven years of a thirteen year sentence in federal prison, according to The Speakers Group, an agency representing motivational speakers.

The video also contains information from a law enforcement officer, security consultant, the CEO of a large financial institution, and a teller who was formerly a robbery victim, according to NAFCU.

"The safety of credit union staff and members is a paramount concern," said NAFCU President Fred Becker. "Through this DVD, they will be educated on how to handle a robbery, safeguard their well-being and survive the situation successfully."

NAFCU cited FBI statistics that there were 1,498 robberies of financial institutions between Jan. 1 and March 31 of this year, and that credit unions were the sites for 117 of them.
