Langley Federal Credit Union, Newport News, Va., honored James L. Frost (Lt. Col. USAF-Ret.), board member from 1980 to 2008, with the title of director emeritus. Frost, who recently retired from the board, has been a member and supporter of the credit union since 1962. While serving on the board, he held numerous positions, including chairman, 1st vice chairman, secretary and assistant secretary. He also chaired the following committees: personnel/human resources, delinquency, marketing, nominating and asset liability management.
BrightStar Credit Union, Sunrise, Fla., announced that it has named James F. Notter to its board of directors. Notter is the superintendent of Broward County Public Schools. He has served 36 years in public education, including 26 years in administrative roles and 10 years as a classroom teacher. He holds a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Buffalo and a master's degree in administration from Niagara University. He is currently enrolled in the doctoral program for organizational leadership at Nova Southeastern University.
Energy Federal Credit Union, Rockville, Md., announced that Raymond Holt Jr. is retiring after 24 years of service on its board of directors and volunteer committees. Holt's service to the credit union began in 1985 when he joined the supervisory committee. A year later, he ran for and was elected to treasurer on the board of directors, a position he held until 1997. That year, he was elected to serve as chairman of the board, a position he held until 2007, when he decided to step down to act as the board of directors' liaison and chairman of the ALCO Committee. Throughout his 24 years of service, Holt also served on the nominating committee, member services committee, investment committee and pension committee.
Wanigas Credit Union, Saginaw, Mich., elected its 2009 board of directors and credit committee. The members of the 2009 board of directors include Gerald Little, chairperson; Larry Gosen, vice chairperson; Oscar Gonzales, treasurer; Michael Balls, secretary; Valorie Green, director; Steve Jurik, director and Sheldon Matthews, director. The 2009 credit committee includes Lynnette Scott, Claude Tanner, Mike Malmo, Anthony McDonald, Robert Henley and Lisa Ramirez.
DATCU, Denton, Texas, announced that four members have been voted into new positions on the board of directors for 2009. Russ Kerbow has been a DATCU board member for the last three years. He has been in law enforcement since 1978 and presently serves the city of Lewisville as police chief. Bill Moss has been a DATCU board member for the last three years, with a total of 21 years' experience as a board member. He is retired from the Denton State School. Gary Goldsmith has approximately 15 years of DATCU board experience. He is a retired school principal in the Lewisville Independent School District and works as a real estate agent for Keller Williams Realty. Gretchen Bataille is the president of the University of North Texas. This will be her first term as a DATCU board director, and she is a current credit union member in good standing.
Columbia Credit Union, Vancouver, Wash., announced that Robert Stewart has been hired as a registered representative with Financial Network in the wealth management department. Robert will offer members and businesses customized investment strategies and insurance services to assist them in working towards their financial and investment goals. Robert most recently worked as a financial adviser at a local financial institution. He brings more than seven years of industry experience to Columbia and will serve members in the Grand Central, Downtown and Battle Ground branches.
North Island Credit Union, San Diego, announced that Vice President/Branch Manager Kirk Gentry was named "El Cajon 2008 Citizen of the Year" by the Rotary Club of El Cajon and the El Cajon Valley Host Lions Club. Gentry was nominated by the Communities Against Substance Abuse, an organization with which he has been actively involved for the past nine years.
Nevada Federal Credit Union, Las Vegas, has announced the results of its annual membership election for the board of directors. Mike Lantz, Mark Ferrario and Gen. Billy McCoy were re-elected to the board of directors for a three year term. Elected officers for the next 12 months are Col. Pete Peterson as chair, Bill Flaxa as vice chair and Dennis Shipley as secretary/treasurer.
The board also re-appointed the supervisory committee to another one year term. The members of that committee are Mark Olson, Peter Scully, Connie Ackridge, Ralph Schneider and Col. Pete Peterson. Re-appointed appeals committee members are Shelia Cannon, Bill Gibson and Haigohe Miller.
