Mazuma CU Sets Up $40,000 College Endowment

The University of Missouri-Kansas City has a new $40,000 endowment thanks to Mazuma Credit Union.

The endowment will be a perpetual fund at the university providing two, $1,000 scholarships each year. The two scholarships will be awarded to a student in the University's Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration, and a student in the School of Education.

UMKC School of Education Dean Linda Edwards thanked Mazuma for its contribution. "Students are graduating with a lot of debt these days, and this scholarship will help students tremendously," she said.

The schools were chosen because they reflect fundamentals of the credit union movement, namely education and personal finance, said Justin Mouzoukos, financial analyst at Mazuma, who worked with UMKC to establish the endowment.

Applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average, write an essay and reside in Mazuma's field of membership.
