Carpooling Is a Gas

LAKE MARY, Fla. -- CFE Federal Credit Union is helping its staffers beat rising gas prices.

Concerned that many employees were seeing their paychecks shrink due to gasoline prices, the credit union has initiated a program offering incentives to employees who carpool with at least three people.

In addition to saving on gasoline and other car-related expenses, carpools with three people or more per group are being rewarded with $50 a month per group for six months to further offset the cost of commuting. Carpool groups are also given preferential parking spots.

The credit union has assigned a carpool coordinator to assist employees find others who live in their zip code and help form car pools. Managers are encouraged to be flexible, when possible, in working with the needs of those who are carpooling.

"We understand that these are difficult times," said CFE President/CEO Joseph A. Melbourne Jr. "yet we remain hopeful that CFE's efforts and incentives will encourage employees to work together to solve these problems, save on costs, and in the process be a little more environmentally friendly."
