EUGENE, Ore. -- Depicting a young girl earning her first dollars at a lemonade stand was good for $5,000 for SELCO Community Credit Union members Marshall and Haley Roeman.
They were the winners of the $5,000 first prize in the $815 million CU's "Your Big Break" commercial contest, which called for members to submit their own home-made commercials. The cash prizes totaled $11,000.
More than 2,500 online votes were received during the contest. Second place of $3,500 went to Elliot Heine for his untitled video that compared credit unions and banks, and third place, a $1,500 prize, went to Dustin Dybevik of Dedo De Luna Productions, for his "Can You Thank Your Bank?" video.
Other cash prizes and awards were presented in a variety of categories at the recent screening and awards celebration at the SELCO Gateway Financial Center in Eugene, the credit union said.
The emcee was Bonnie Larson, vice president of marketing for 78,000-member SELCO.
"As a member-owned financial cooperative, our foundation as an institution is rooted in partnering and collaborating for our shared success. It seems only natural that we turn the act of telling our story over to the people we serve--both our members and the community at large," she said.
