Students Win When They 'Feed the Pig'

FAIRFAX, Va.-- Students and staff of Stonewall Jackson High School and Osbourn Park High School took their competition to new heights by trying to out save one another.

In an effort to improve financial literacy and economic awareness amongst their student body, both schools participated in Feed the Pig, a school-wide savings competition sponsored by Apple Federal Credit Union.

The goal: to promote the value of saving for the future, and earn bragging rights as well as interest, by securing the most deposits via their Apple Student-Run Credit Union branch.

Record deposits from both schools fueled the campaign. Osbourn witnessed an increase of 100% over its branch's monthly average, with Stonewall enjoying a similar 14%. It was Stonewall, however, who ultimately edged out Osbourn for the win. Their accumulation of more than $74,000 in deposits bested Osbourn's $34,000, earning the school not only bragging rights, but a one-of-a-kind Feed the Pig trophy, courtesy of the Trophy Shop of Manassas.

Apple's sponsorship of Feed the Pig included financial education workshops and a prize program that rewarded each school's biggest student and staff savers.
