Oregon Credit Unions Start Financial Education Task Force

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Oregon Credit Unions have successfully led a campaign during the 2007 Oregon legislative session to implement a Financial Education Task Force and to secure funding for it through the Department of Education.

Oregon credit unions have financially supported the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Finance and have started grass-root efforts for financial education such as running workshops to youth in a community, establishing in-school branches run with student involvement, providing classroom presentations on financial topics, and creating legislation to building a relationship with the Department of Education.

The Task Force held its first meeting on March 21 and will work through
October 2008.
