Dutch Point Credit Union, Wethersfield, Conn., is now in its fourth year of its "Read to Achieve" program. The program is 100% supported by credit union employees who contribute monthly to the program. The annual contribution total was over $8,000 for 2007, which allowed the credit union to donate $4,200 to the Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut and $2,200 to the Greater Hartford Literacy Council. Dutch Point also donated over 10 desks and filing cabinets to the M.D. Fox Middle School in Hartford.
Family First Federal Credit Union, Rochester, N.Y., worked with the Penfield High School Basketball program for the second consecutive year to support Coaches vs. Cancer. Family First FCU sponsored the Mark Bezek Memorial Basketball Tournament, which is named after Penfield coach, Mark Bezek, who died in April 2005 after a battle with cancer. Family First employee, Heather Salamone, a cancer survivor, represented the credit union at the tournament's award presentation. With the help of 500 men and women college and high school coaches, Coaches vs. Cancer has raised $25 million dollars through the American Cancer Society.

Universal 1 Credit Union, Dayton, Ohio, donated $6,000 to the Dayton Ohio Foodbank. Universal 1 CU collected monetary and food donations at area branches and CU employees participated in a chili cook-off to help raise funds. The proceeds were raised through a campaign to help feed the hungry in sponsorship with WDTN-TV 2's Food for Friends campaign.

Collins Community Credit Union, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, announced that it is continuing to sponsor the KCRG TV 9 Show You Care program for 2008. Collins Community CU, as a main corporate sponsor, is directly involved in supporting the Young Parents Network, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, A+ For Education, and Coats for Kids. This is the fifth year that Collins Community CU has sponsored the program.

Point Loma Credit Union, San Diego, Calif., gave away Apple iPhones to three young members. Anyone that opened a PLCU Starting Point of Young Adult Account during the promotion received an iTunes gift card and a drawing entry. Zoe P., 13 of San Diego, Paul S., 17 of Carlsbad, and Aaron W., 17 from Temecula were selected as the iPhone winners.

Financial Resources Federal Credit Union, Bridgewater, N.J., announced that its "Jeans Day Friday," which was established in 2005, resulted in $4,150 in charitable contributions. The program permits employees to wear jeans on the last Friday of every month by contributing at least $5.00 to a pool. The pool is maintained by the Credit Union's Foundation, Financial Resources FCU Foundation, Inc., for the benefit of an organization. A committee representing the Credit Union's employees then names the recipient of the proceeds.

CASE Credit Union, Lansing, Mich., donated $4,000 worth of food to the Greater Lansing Food Bank for distribution to local area food pantries. Donations were made by members, staff, and the general public at the nine CASE branches.

Pen Air Federal Credit Union, Pensacola, Fla., donated $5,000 to the Sacred Heart Foundation for the Children's Miracle Network. The Sacred Heart Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to provide care for the sick, the poor, the young, and the aged. The Children's Miracle Network is also a non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for children's hospitals throughout the nation. Pen Air FCU has supported CMN for several years with contributions totaling over $30,000.
