CU Times Names New Editor-In-Chief

HOBOKEN, N.J. -- Sarah Snell Cooke has been named the new editor-in-chief for Credit Union Times.

Cooke started at CU Times Sept. 1, 2000 as the Washington reporter and was promoted to senior Washington reporter in October 2004. In her seven years at CU Times, Cooke has covered major political, legislative, and regulatory issues in the industry.

"I'm very excited to have this opportunity," Cooke said. "We're going to carry on with our tradition of breaking news with strict adherence to journalistic integrity."

Cooke has been the interim editor since December and will now be transitioning into the editor-in-chief role. Her strong experiences as senior Washington reporter will allow her to maintain the quality that readers rely on and transition easily to editor-in-chief.

"It's an exciting time for credit unions with the mortgage market in shambles, the UBIT lawsuit getting underway, and the ABA lawsuit in Pennsylvania," Cooke said. "CU Times is going to be there and continue to be the No. 1 source for credit union news."

Looking ahead for the magazine, Cooke said that she wants to "cultivate a deeper online presence and offer more in person events, which are things readers have asked for."

Cooke replaces former Editor/Publisher Paul Gentile, who left the publication to become president/CEO of the New Jersey Credit Union League; Tom Greve has stepped into the publisher's role.

Cooke is 31 and lives in Fulton, Md., with her husband, John, and two kids, Jacob, age five, and Alexandra, age two. She graduated from Western Maryland College in 1997 with a B.A. in political science and a minor in journalism. In college, Cooke played volleyball and still continues to play now in a league. Prior to coming to CU Times Cooke wrote for a weekly newsletter, Credit Union Regulatory Insider.
