PLANO, Texas -- Southwest Corporate Federal Credit Union's annual Economic Forum will feature several notable economists.
NAFCU Chief Economist Tun Wai will join CUNA Senior Economist Steven Rick and credit union asset/liability management pioneer Charles Idol at this year's Economic Forum, which takes place Oct. 16-17 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Frisco, Texas.
"Since 1977, Southwest Corporate has provided its members with an opportunity to gain insights from leading economists and financial industry experts," said John Cassidy, president/CEO of Southwest Corporate. "It is safe to say that an entire generation of credit union leadership has grown up gaining an annual dose of economic clarity and forecasting that enabled them to better anticipate conditions in which their credit unions operate."
Rick has been with CUNA since 1992. He conducts economic research and lectures at various credit union schools and conferences across the country and has authored a textbook on asset-liability management for credit union executives. Rick also holds a lecturer position with the Economics Department at the University of Wisconsin where he teaches Money & Banking, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics.
Wai joined NAFCU in 1987. He is responsible for most of the research data and statistics used in NAFCU's lobbying efforts in Washington and is also a founding member of the Credit Union Economics Group. Prior to joining NAFCU, he held research positions with the World Bank, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, and the Brookings Institution, an independent research group.
Idol has been involved in the credit union movement since 1975, serving as a credit union director and providing credit unions and their professional associations with consulting, research, and educational services in the areas of asset/liability management and investments.
His publications on credit union ALM/investment issues and equity duration applications have appeared in Credit Union Executive and Credit Union Management and he has conducted seminars for CUNA, CUES, NCUA, and over 30 credit union leagues.
Registration for the Economic Forum will open in mid July. Details will be posted on www.swcorp.org.
