PORTLAND, Ore. -- Training staff is an important element at Point West Credit Union, but providing training within the community is also valuable. That's why the $105 million credit union recently added Amy Nelson as training and education manager.
Nelson's duties include not only training credit union staff, but also providing training within the community. After arriving at the CU she became the fifth Point West Credit Union staff member to earn certification in the Banking On Our Future program and is teaching financial literacy classes in Portland public school classrooms.
"One of the reasons I joined the Point West team was the opportunity to get involved with our local community. I was teaching a high school classroom three weeks after I started at Point West," said Nelson.
Alison Carr, vice president of corporate development for the CU, said of Nelson's new position, "Providing a high level of member-centered, professional service with each interaction is a critical point of differentiation for our credit union. The addition of Amy allows us to equip each staff member with the tools necessary to provide the high level of service we promise members, while we continue to grow."
Previously, Nelson worked for Advantis Credit Union for nine years, most recently serving as a human resource generalist. She holds a BA from Pacific University in Journalism/Communication as well as a Certificate of Human Resource Management from Linfield College of Continuing Education.
