Co-ops Explain Their Benefits on the Hill

WASHINGTON -- The National Cooperative Business Association scheduled a briefing on Capitol Hill late last month to share the good cooperatives do for their communities.

Among the participants in the informational sessions were CUNA Chief Economist Bill Hampel, NCBA President Paul Hazen, and representatives from Wright Patman Congressional Federal Credit Union, Land O'Lakes, ACE Hardware and other cooperative organizations.

According to NCBA, more than 154 million Americans belong to nearly 22,000 cooperatives. Co-ops employ more than 600,000 people, have an aggregate payroll of $15.5 billion, and generate more than $273 billion in annual revenue.
