CU Establishes Disaster Relief Account for N.C. Community Hit Hard by Tornado
RIEGELWOOD, N.C. -- Early indications are that five residents of Riegelwood, N.C., a town where 90% of residents belong to the $66 million Riegelwood Federal Credit Union, have been killed in a tornado that hit the town on the morning of Nov. 16. The town and surrounding areas were under a tornado watch and warning as of press time and more storm damage could occur. The CU is reporting that two of the five residents killed are members of the CU. The CU has said helicopter rescue teams are on the scene, but have been hampered from landing by strong winds. The credit union was not damaged by the storm and all members of its staff checked in, the CU said. The credit union has already set up a disaster relief account for the members whose property has been damaged by the storm.
