Arrowhead CU Finds New Account Inspiration In a Can

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- Who knew that inspiration could be found in a can of soda?

Arrowhead Credit Union call center representatives recently used RC Cola cans in their quest for new checking accounts. A creative call to action by call center Vice President Randy Stolp for a fun idea to refer checking accounts over the phone inspired team leader Christina Haddad to transform RC Cola cans into "Refer Checking" reminders.

Cases of RC Cola were purchased and each can was decorated with colorful stickers to encourage everyone in the 50-person department to refer checking accounts at every opportunity. According to Stolp, the bright cans at each representative's desk became a daily visual reminder of their goal.

Although just one part of a credit union-wide effort to increase penetration of checking accounts with direct deposit, the call center's creative approach resulted in a 30% increase over two months in new checking account branch referrals.
