OGDEN, Utah -- The Goldenwest Credit Union Annual 5K Run-Walk-Crawl has resulted in an over $35,000 donation to seven local schools.
More than 2,000 students, teachers, parents, volunteers and other community leaders recently participated in the event.
One hundred percent of the registration fees were donated to the participating schools--Bonneville High School, South Ogden Junior High, T.H. Bell Junior High, H. Guy Child Elementary, MarLon Hills Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, and Uintah Elementary. Goldenwest CU matched the registration fees to the designated schools.
"It is an awesome feeling to be in a crowd of 2,000 people who are running early on a Saturday morning to raise money for our schools," said Shelley Clarke, president of Goldenwest CU. "We were thrilled to present the checks to each school. Best of all, we know that the money raised through this event will help improve the educational experience of the children in our community."
The schools use the 5K funds to support student programs such as athletics and cultural events, and to purchase library materials and playground equipment. This year's race was the sixth consecutive 5K that Goldenwest has hosted to raise money for local schools. The annual fundraiser is becoming one of the largest 5K events in Northern Utah.
