SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Teachers Credit Union is helping teens get investment savvy. The credit union has once again sponsored the Junior Achievement of Michiana's Stock Market Challenge, which is a game for students to learn about the Stock Market by using a hands-on approach. The Stock Market Challenge allows students to experience the excitement and rush of investing on Wall Street while learning valuable life lessons. Some 58 teams of four were given $500,000 pick stocks from a list of fictitious stocks. Students get a time limit to increase their portfolio wealth and to finish ahead of their peers. Throughout the game the teams are given progress reports, and press releases regarding the companies they have purchased. They are given access to floor traders who help them place their bids instantly using hand held devices. Additional sponsors for the event included Davenport College, and several other local businesses.
