CORNING, N.Y. - Corning Credit Union has donated $25,000 to the Corning Community College's Development Foundation's Major Gifts Campaign From Past to Future Generations. Investing in a Strong Community. The donation will establish a Corning CU Scholarship Fund and ensure the continuation of a $1,000 per year scholarship in perpetuity. Applicants must be a graduate of a Southern Tier/Finger Lakes high school district and selection will be based on academic and extracurricular achievements; volunteerism and community service; and evidence of financial need. The successful applicant must also demonstrate evidence of character and a strong desire for formal education. The scholarship will be distributed as $500 per semester pending demonstration of sufficient academic progress from the fall to spring semester. Applications will be made available in the spring with the scholarship awarded for the fall semester. "Corning Community College plays an important role in the education of an overwhelming number of local students," said Jason Bierman, CCU manager of corporate development. "We are very excited to establish this scholarship and hope it will help make higher education possible for future students."
