NEW YORK - Officials with the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions will travel to New Orleans on Jan. 27 to distribute almost $300,000 from the NCUF's relief and rebuilding fund to four New Orleans credit unions which are trying to recover from the affects of 2005's hurricanes. Federation executive director Clifford Rosenthal will make the trip. Rosenthal will be accompanied by NCUF Capitalization Program Director, Alice Greenwald, and NCUF Board Member Helen Godfrey-Smith, CEO of the Shreveport FCU, based in Shreveport, Louisiana. Godfrey-Smith is currently on the board of the African-American Credit Union Coalition, and was its previous chairwoman. Checks will be presented to ASI FCU, Total Community Action FCU, UNO (University of New Orleans) FCU, and the African-American Credit Union Coalition. A ceremony and reception will be held at the Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans, 6:00 p.m. Along with Rosenthal, highlighted speakers will include Mignhon Tour'e, president of ASI FCU; Anne Cochran, president/CEO of the Louisiana Credit Union League, and Amanda Joseph representing the Jewish Fund for Justice/Shefa Fund, a supporter of the NCUF and its fund.
