Boomerang Gives Members More Than Just Money

SYDNEY, Australia - The Boomerang Scheme helped Bill and Joan, a middle-aged couple. They have a disabled daughter and had been renting a refrigerator at AUS$80 (US$58) a month. The refrigerator was critical to store the medicines their daughter needed. Reliability was literally a matter of life and death. Prior to the rental contract they had bought an old refrigerator, which broke down. Several costly medicines had to be replaced. They heard about Boomerang and contacted the program's administrators. Bill cried when he was told they had received the loan. He said the process made him feel "like a normal human being" again. The repayment is AUS$25 (US$18), which makes a difference in their budget now and will make even more of a difference when the loan is paid off.
