MECU staffers also cashed in a day's worth of vacation to help raise funds for Hurricane Katrina Relief. A total of $29,000 was presented to NCUF Disaster Relief and $10,000 was donated to the American Red Cross. Hurricane Katrina survivors were also lent a helping hand by Baltimore City and MECU members. Some 100 individuals and crews from the Departments of Public Works, Transportation, Recreation and Parks, as well as Fire and Police first responders went to help in devastated St. Bernard Parish until the arrival of the 82nd Airborne.
