Fort Belvoir FCU Helps Kids Have "Fun with Money"
FORT BELVOIR, Va. - Fort Belvoir Federal Credit Union is connecting with its younger future consumers by hosting a "Fun with Money" day. As part of its partnership with Minnieland Private Day School and Christian Hope Early Development Center, the credit union treated over 50 children to learn first hand about the daily operations here and a behind the scenes look at coin and bill counting machines. In addition to the private tour of the facilities, the program included an educational portion where kids learned about the value of saving and how to identify different types of currency. "Fort Belvoir Federal Credit Union recognizes the importance of teaching children about money while they are still young," said Fort Belvoir FCU President/CEO Patricia S. Kimmel. "They are our future and it's our job to make sure they understand the importance of money and credit." In the 2005 school year Fort Belvoir FCU staffers have presented 32 financial literacy education programs to more than 750 students.
