Amen to Marlene Schwartz and Robert Scott for their comments about volunteers in the July 17 issue! Volunteer directors have become insignificant in recent years and they are only called upon when there is a rally on the Mall or a march on the Hill! As the saying goes, treat the directors like mushrooms and send them to conferences or better yet on cruises! What do they know about reg flex and executive compensation? It has become a sad state that volunteers have been left behind. We no longer have the Al Georges to challenge the leadership and make a statement that credit unions' strength derives from its members and the spirit of volunteerism. Have you asked how many directors even get to read Credit Union Times other than at a conferences or an annual meeting? It's too bad that Marlene and Bob's dialog came during the closing minutes of the NAFCU annual meeting rather than at its opening ceremony! Farouk Wang Vice Chair University of Hawaii FCU Honolulu
