WASHINGTON - The Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act took center stage at the Minnesota Credit Union Networks' first Hike the Hill visit of the year, June 7-9. Thirteen credit union staff and volunteers made the trip to Capitol Hill intent on securing the names of Minnesota members of Congress for CURIA. MCUN Director of Governmental Affairs Joe Mathews said the group was well received by the state's congressmen, "each asking questions and giving us feedback about CURIA and its strengths and weaknesses. After this Hike the Hill, we are optimistic that some members of the Minnesota delegation will be signing onto the legislation." At press time there were 51 co-sponsors of the measure. The group also used the Hike the Hill event to personally thank those members of the Minnesota delegation who supported the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention & Consumer Protection Act which passed in April. They included: Reps. Jim Ramstad (R), John Kline (R), Mark Kennedy (R), Gil Gutknecht (R) and Colin Peterson (D); and Sen. Norm Colemman (R). Altogether, the Minnesota credit union folks visited nine of 10 congressional offices and the NCUA during their two-day Hike the Hill.
