Duncan Named New CFO at CUNA

WASHINGTON-CUNA has named Joanne M. Duncan as its new chief financial officer starting May 9. Duncan is a certified public accountant with nearly 20 years of accounting, managerial, and strategic planning experience in the non-profit sector. She most recently held the position of senior vice president of education programs, IT, and strategic planning for America's Health Insurance Plans, where she oversaw non-dues revenue for the Washington-based organization since 2003. Prior to that, she worked up the ranks to senior vice president of finance and strategic services for the Health Insurance Association of America; Duncan had been with HIAA since 1985. "With her extensive association experience, Joanne has a well-developed understanding of the financial and tax implications that business decisions have on non-profits," Mica said. "She knows our environment, having worked effectively in the past both with outside auditors and audit/finance committee members. Overall Joanne brings a strong business and financial perspective, and will be an excellent addition to CUNA's executive management team." As CFO, Duncan will direct and administer CUNA's overall financial plans, business policies and accounting practices. She will be responsible for the preparation of corporate financial reporting and have specific managerial accountability for accomplishing the objectives of the organization's Accounting and Finance Departments. In addition to being a CPA, Duncan holds a master's degree in taxation from George Mason University and a bachelor's degree from Randolph Macon College. She also is a Certified Association Executive, a national certification from the American Society of Association Executives. CUNA Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer-Madison John Franklin has been acting CFO since Mary Meixelsperger left late last year when the association moved the position from Madison, Wis., to Washington, D.C.
