WASHINGTON-The World Council of Credit Unions, along with three state leagues, brought a handful of congressional staffers down to Mexico last week to visit three credit union development projects. The California and Texas leagues are partnered with Caja Popular Mexicana, the country's largest credit union. It has 326 branches throughout most of Mexico. The Arizona Credit Union League works with the second largest, Caja Libertad. The group expected to visit both credit unions, as well a program in the state of Michoacan that works with credit unions to reach out to the underserved. This is the first trip of its kind for WOCCU.
