APPLETON, Wis. - Fox Communities Credit Union is set to open a student-run branch at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College to provide lessons in personal finance while providing a place for students to hone their skills. The new branch, scheduled to open in August, will offer a number of services including savings and checking accounts and information about personal finance. Fox Communities CU will cover all branch costs, including construction, salaries and equipment. Fox Communities CU employees will supervise student branch staffers, who will receive a salary and college credit. According to NWTC President Jeff Rafn, hopes are high that the new branch will go a long way toward attracting and recruiting students since "they can see the environment as they make choices about the type of jobs they want in the future." Plans are underway to tap students from other school programs such as marketing to create logos, signage and brochures. Fox Communities CU launched similar partnerships with Green Bay West and Preble high schools last year. Both schools serve about 400 students, most with checking and savings accounts.
