SANFORD, N.C.-Coastal Federal Credit Union will now be permitted to serve over 15,000 people in Sanford, N.C. NCUA approved Coastal FCU to provide services to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in underserved portions of Sanford and Lee Counties. The designated area is comprised of three census tracts that include much of downtown Sanford and areas to the South and East. More detailed eligibility information is available at Coastal's Northview Crossing branch. "This is the first time Coastal has been designated to expand service to an underserved area, but there's a need in Sanford that we're capable of meeting," Coastal President and CEO Larry Wilson said. "A significant portion of the community has either been without access to reasonable financial services, denied service, or run into obstacles like high fees and account requirements. Now, not only do they have easier access to a full range of services, they can become a member-owner of an organization that's going to operate in the best interest of them, their families and their community." Coastal currently serves the employees of several large employers in the Sanford area and the branch offers bilingual service for Spanish-speaking members. Coastal Federal Credit Union was chartered on August 31, 1967.
