Security Service Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, has helped raise over $85,000 for the San Antonio Children's shelter. Proving that spare change can lead to big donations, the two-day KONO Radiothon fundraiser resulted in more than $4,500 collected in just coin. SSFCU provided coin counter bins for the event. Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union and Greater Minnesota Credit Union, Brainerd and Mora, have donated $500 to the Children's Miracle Network. During a joint "Big Buck" contest, the two CUs competed for a traveling trophy and a $500 donation to CMN in the name of both credit unions, presented by the second place team. The highest number of total antler points of the top five deer at each credit union determined the winner. Deer could be taken by archery, rifle, or muzzleloader, however vehicles were not accepted. In the end Mid-Minnesota was the victor with a total of 45 points, while Greater Minnesota counted 43. CoastHills Federal Credit Union, Lompoc, Calif., has raised more than $47,500 for the Children's Miracle Network over the past three years. This year the credit union is determined to raise at least $20,000. The 2005 goal has been inspired by the recent death of CoastHills FCU Orcutt branch staffer Lisa Fausel's seven-year old daughter Erica, who fought cancer for over three years. Fundraising efforts in 2004 included the traditional raffles, swap meets and more unconventional events including an employee shaving his head for donations and management plunging into dunk tanks during an employee retreat. Co-op Services Credit Union, Livonia, Mich., has raised more than $1,600 for the Children's Miracle Network. Employees participated by paying a dollar to dress casually once a week. Co-op Services CU has raised more than $20,000 for CMN during the past six years. In addition, the credit union's name is engraved on the Beaumont Society Donor Wall at the hospital's main facility in Royal Oak in recognition for its total giving.
