PHOENIX - Desert Schools Federal Credit Union members and staffers have literally "nickeled and dimed" their way to a 2004 donation totaling $175,000 to benefit the Children's Miracle Network. According to Desert Schools FCU Senior Director of Marketing Jamie Boyer, it wasn't one event or contribution that fueled the generosity. The credit union spent the whole of 2004 organizing employee barbeques and bowling tournaments, conducting in-branch change drives, selling sun shades and duffle bags, and holding two golf tournaments - all in the name of Credit Unions for Kids and the Children's Miracle Network. So far the 2005 fundraising events will include placing change jars in branches in April and the seventh annual CMN Golf Tournament. Proceeds go directly to meet local needs. Funds stay in Arizona, benefiting children through new equipment, patient services, research programs and the "One Darn Cool School" at Phoenix Children's Hospital.
