BOSTON - Adoption of voice over IP (VoIP) - telephone service over the Internet - was leading edge at credit unions a year or two ago. Now it's becoming more mainstream. Residential and business customers alike are being lured by major players such as cable companies and Vonage, the early market giant. Traditional phone carriers like AT&T, Qwest and Verizon are anxious to join in the fray or be left behind. Analyst Kate Griffin with The Yankee Group recently studied the market for a new report.
