VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Chartway Federal Credit Union's sixth Annual Charity Golf Classic helped raise $215,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern Virginia to grant the wishes of 48 kids. "It was just a tremendous success," said Chartway FCU President/CEO Ronald L. Burniske. "Year after year we continue to raise the bar for this event, and meeting our Wish children during the tournament helps us all understand that we cannot do enough to help these amazing kids. It is all about family and coming together as a community." This marks the third consecutive year the credit union has earned the distinction as the largest single event contributor to the charity. Since 1999 Chartway FCU has raised over $567,000-enough to grant 126 wishes to children. Burniske credits the event's success to dedicated employees volunteering their time, the help of Alpharetta, Georgia-based presenting sponsor Certegy Inc. and a few celebrities including Joanna Cassidy of HBO's Six Feet Under, singer/actress Susan Anton, Survivor All-Star Rudy Boesch, and Washington Redskins' Charley Taylor, Pat Fischer, Mark Moseley, Jimmie Jones and Mike Bragg. Since 1980 the Make-A-Wish Foundation has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work.
