KEARNEY, Neb. - Describing the sales as "phenomenal," Kearney Federal Credit Union has sold - in little more than a month - nearly 1,200 yellow ribbon car magnets containing the logo, "Support the Troops." "We've had to reorder couple of times now and it's unreal the demand we've received with other businesses in town following our idea and selling them, too." said Leah Beckenhauer, marketing associate at Kearney FCU. The magnet campaign began June 1.. Proceeds from the sale of the $3 eight-inch magnets affixed to bumpers are directed to the Children's Miracle `CU4Kids' program. "We even got front page coverage in our local paper discussing the promotion," she said. The idea to sell them came from chief teller Amy Schade, whose husband was deployed to the Mideast six months ago. The FCU is able to buy them at $1.50 apiece through the vendor, Magnet America of Bennett, N.C. which ships them for free with no taxes, Beckenhauer said. "It's really wonderful the reaction we've received," she said.
